A one-hour drive from San Diego, barely
across the border in Tecate, Baja California, Rancho La Puerta's perfect,
dry (never humid) climate, balanced between sea and desert at an altitude
of 1,750 feet in a cooler mountain zone, makes it an ideal location
for year-round fitness activities, relaxation, and the recharging of
everyone who wishes to live longer in the vigor and joy of good health.
Rancho La Puerta, founded by Edmond
and Deborah Szekely, is the original destination fitness resort and
spa — family-founded, -owned and -operated. Today’s guests enjoy the
very best resort spa experience, shaped by expertise developed over
65 years. Each week, some 150 guests share 3,000 acres of mountains
and meadows beneath 3,885’ Mount Kuchumaa. The peak straddles the U.S.-Mexico
border, and Native Americans consider its slopes and summit a sacred
place — so much so that it was the first geographic feature in the U.S.
to be named a National Historic Site by the Department of Interior based
on spiritual significance. Rancho La Puerta provides
space — that which is most lacking in today’s life. Space to breathe
freely. To relax. To renew, reflect and redirect one’s longer-living
life. All facilities and land are for the exclusive use of guests who
come for the week, arriving on a Saturday and departing on the next,
ensuring the delights of a warm and welcoming community. Most of the
facilities and lodgings are sprinkled amidst world-class gardens. Probably
the world’s first “eco” resort, the Ranch practices sustainable organic
gardening and resource conservation, and leads the way in environmental
protection and education efforts in the region. Within walking
distance, our organic farm, Rancho Tres Estrellas, grows the healthy
fare we dine on daily.

economic, industrial and cultural center in the country, and the most populous
city. Mexico City is also the Federal District (Distrito Federal

the city).
The Historic Centre (Centro Histórico) and the "floating gardens"
of
Xochimilco in the southern borough have been declared World Heritage
Sites by the
UNESCO.
Famous landmarks in the Historic Centre include the
Plaza de la Constitución (Zocalo), the main central square with its
time clashing Spanish-era
Metropolitan Cathedral and Palacio Nacional, and ancient Aztec
temple ruins
Templo Mayor are all within a few steps of one another.

Named for the sugar
cane grown in its home state of Veracruz, Hotel Azucar was
conceived by hotelier Carlos Couturier, founder of some of Mexico’s
hippest resort properties. For the Acuzar he decided on an almost
anti-design back-to-basics theme that finds its expression in an airy,
breezy feeling. The hotel’s 20 low-slung bungalows, all in an intense
white-on-white colour scheme, inspire visions of loose cotton clothing,
sandals and the easiest of schedules.
Bungalows feature thatched roofs and private terraces overlooking the
Gulf of Mexico, each with its own locally made hammock for naps or
reading sessions cooled by the sea breeze. Public spaces are mainly
open-air, including the library with wicker seating and a thatched
ceiling as well as a spa area with a yoga space and a full range of spa
offerings. The sea winds blow through the hotel’s culinary offerings as
well: the restaurant features the freshest of Gulf seafood served in a
sugary-white environment. It’s a simple recipe for luxury, but it works
wonders on world-weary souls. (c Design Hotels)
