Golden Milk Overnight Soaked Oats

Golden Milk is a wonderful, creamy, and nutritious warm beverage that features turmeric, spices and honey.   Amanda Bloom a registered nurse for Kaiser Permanente, enjoyed Golden Milk Ice Cream in a craft shop near her home, and set about creating this flavor profile in overnight soaked oats, for a nutritious breakfast. The result is this recipe for Golden Milk Overnight Oats, one of the most popular featured in 2019, by Kaiser Thrive.

 

 

Golden Milk Overnight Soaked Oats

This hearty and nutritious breakfast features the flavors of creamy Golden Milk with Turmeric and Honey and Spice.

Ingredients

Golden Milk (Yields 2 cups; You'll Use 1/2 cup for the Oats; Reserve the Remainder)

  • 2 cups milk - your choice
  • 3/4 teaspoons turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Few Grinds Fresh Pepper

Overnight Oats

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats - do not use Instant
  • 1/2 cup golden milk - from prepared recipe shown above
  • 1/2 cup mango - fresh or frozen, chopped and divided
  • 1/4 cup Greek Yogurt - Fat Free, Plain
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 8 whole almonds - chopped
  • 2 teaspoons coconut flakes - unsweetened

Instructions

Golden Milk

  • Place milk in small sauce pan and add all Golden Milk ingredients.
  • Heat on medium until it comes to a simmer, stir occasionally.
  • Let simmer a couple of minutes while whisking slowly; it will get frothy.
  • Set aside and let cool. You'll use 1/2 cup for the oat recipe, and reserve the rest to enjoy as a beverage (heated).

Overnight Oats

  • Mix together uncooked oats, golden milk, 1/4 cup of the mango, yogurt, and salt in a mason or similar type jar.
  • Stir well and refrigerate overnight.
  • In the morning, add to a serving dish and top with almonds, the remaining 1/4 cup of mango, and coconut flakes.

Spa Index Kitchen Notes

If you’d like to have less carbohydrate or sugars in it, feel free to use whatever calorie-free sweeteners you’d like. You could also reduce the carb count by using half as much of the rolled oats and keeping everything else the same, it will still be substantial and tasty.
