Pritikin Tomato Sauce

This tomato sauce was created for the Pritikin Eating Plan.  The guest favorite recipes have no artery clogging fats like butter and cream and no added salt.  Try it with chicken, meatloaf, and even fish!

Pritikin Tomato Sauce
Recipes: Condiments
Ingredients
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 3 tablespoons no-salt-added tomato paste
  • 1 cup green pepper, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced thin
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 28-ounce can Italian plum tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1-3 garlic cloves, minced
Method
  1. Combine all tomato sauce ingredients in a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, and simmer about 20 minutes.
  3. Serve with desired entree or use in other recipes.
