SPA INDEX COCOA BUTTER HAND AND FOOT CREME Cocoa Butter is pressed from the cocoa bean as a
byproduct of the chocolate manufacturing process. Unaltered food-grade cocoa
butter has a pleasant chocolate smell and is readily available online from
handmade soap product suppliers. We've grated cocoa butter into our own bath
water for soft winter skin, since cocoa butter is an excellent emollient,
leaving our skin soft and smooth. Unlike other oils that penetrate into the
skin, cocoa butter remains on top and lays down a protective layer, preventing
the skin from drying out.
1/2 cup almonds
1/2 cup dry oatmeal
4 tablespoons cocoa butter
3 tablespoons honey
Process the almonds in a blender or coffee grinder until coarsely ground. In a
bowl, combine oatmeal, cocoa butter, honey and ground nuts. Rub into your
hands and feet, cover with cotton gloves and socks, and leave on overnight. The
next morning, remove the gloves and socks and rinse. You'll be delighted with
your incredibly smooth skin. This remedy is ideal for soothing hard-working
hands and feet because it gently exfoliates old, dead skin and nourishes new
cells. Do you know why some products are called "creme" and others "cream"? Creme is a commonly used term to describe a the consistency of substance which doesn't have dairy as an ingredient. For instance, heavy whipping cream uses actual dairy "cream" whereas "Mock Whipped Creme" does not. One of the few products
that we notice doesn't follow this rule is "cold cream" which no longer has dairy.

SpaIndex.com Tip: You've heard the adage "Never cook with wine you wouldn't drink." This holds equally true for home spa remedies. Never use ingredients for your home spa treatments that you wouldn't want to eat. Your skin, the largest organ on your body, breathes and is porous. It will absorb the properties of the ingredients you are using. Don't "clean out the fridge or pantry" to create your home remedies. Use fresh, high quality ingredients for the best results, and do not store the assembled-treatment any longer than the shelf life of the *most* perishable ingredient. In addition, take care to research the properties of all essential oils you plan to use in a recipe. Some are photo-sensitive and can contribute to burning when in the sun, and others are harmful during pregnancy. See our Essential Oils List as a start, but research fully. Finally, insure the containers or jars you will be using are sterile by boiling them in hot water. This will help prevent contamination of your finished product, which could lead to spoilage. |
