A tasty way to serve a cheeseburger, without the bun

2teaspoonsBurger seasoning of your choice
4slices2% Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar Cheese- or cheese of your choice
Suggested Burger Fixings
12leavesButter lettuce- whole, washed
1largeAvocado- optional, sliced into 8 wedges
1wholeRed Onion- sliced
1wholeTomato- sliced
2-3slicesButter Pickles- per burger
2-3slicesMushrooms- per burger
Instructions
Turn the grill on or pre-heat the oven.
You can also grill in a cast iron skillet.
Prepare the burger patties by mixing the seasoning into the meat and forming four patties.
Cook the burger patties to your liking, about 5 minutes on each side. Add the cheese slices as soon as you take the patties off the grill.
Optional: If you like your onions and mushrooms cooked, very lightly sear them at this point, in the same pan. Don't add extra oil or fat -- you won't need it.
Prepare individual plates with 3 lettuce leaves on each. Place cooked patties on top of lettuce leaves and top each patty with a red onion and tomato slice, add mushrooms if you choose to use them. Garnish the plate with a pickle and avocado. We like to add a dollop of mayo and mustard to our burger.
Wrap the lettuce around the burger and take a delicious bite with napkins close by because it will get all over!
Spa Index Kitchen Notes
We calculated the burger, a few slices of avocado per burger, 1 thin slice of cheese per burger, plus greens, an onion slice, and a tomato slice, using 95% lean ground beef.
