TAHAA
Tahaa is an island located among the Society Islands, in French Polynesia. The islands of Tahaa and neighboring Raiatea are enclosed by the same coral reef, and may once have been a single island. Tahaa and the surrounding islets emerging from the coral reef form a commune (municipality) part of the Leeward Islands. Tahaa produces 70-80% of all French Polynesia's vanilla. TUAMOTUS / TIKEHAU
The Tuamotus are a chain of atolls in French Polynesia and the largest chain of atolls in the world, spanning an area of the Pacific Ocean roughly the size of Western Europe. Among them is Tikehau, an almost circular atoll, with an interior lagoon and coral reef. Considered to be one of the most beautiful atolls in Polynesia, there is also an abundance of life. The density of tropical fish in the lagoon is so high that Jacques Cousteau's research group declared that Tikehau's lagoon contained the highest concentration of fish in all of the Tuamotu atolls. |
