Roasted Pears and Raisins with Star Anise makes for a delicious dessert. It satisfies your sweet tooth while offering a departure from refined sugars.
Ingredients
4wholepears
½teaspoonground cinnamon
½teaspooncloves
½teaspoonstar anise
¼cupraisinsor dried cranberries are nice, too
2tablespoonsoats or oat branoptional
2tablespoons pecansoptional
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine the spices, or, if using whole, grind the spices in a grinder or pulverize with a mortar or pestle until all spices are finely textured and mixed.
Peel and halve the pears, removing the core. Place pears in a baking pan. Add 1/4 cup water, and sprinkle with spices and dried fruit.
Bake, covered, 1 hour, until pears are tender. You may rotate them cut side up and down as you prefer, for even browning.
Uncover, sprinkle rolled oats and optionally pecans, for crunch and texture.
Broil for five minutes for a grilled effect.
