What are Meditation Labyrinths?

Meditation Labyrinths provide a meditative experience thought to reduces stress, renew energy levels and create inner balance within the walker. Unlike a maze, which is intended to confuse, block, and misdirect the walker, a labyrinth is meant to relax by giving the walker time to meditate, think, or muse as he or she follows a “leisurely path to center.”

While a maze has complex branching with many incorrect choices of path and direction, a labyrinth has only a single, non-branching path, which always leads the walker to the center. In this sense, a labyrinth is not designed to be difficult and does not push the walker to think about navigation.

Most spa resorts offering  labyrinths construct them outside, with stones, gravel, or other  natural materials.  However, it is not uncommon to find indoor meditation labryinths made from tiles, inlay, mosaics, paint, candles, and other natural materials.
