CHAUTAUQUA

The town of Chautauqua is in the western part of Chautauqua County on the northwestern end of Chautauqua Lake. Chautauqua is famous as the home of the Chautauqua Institution, the birthplace the Chautauqua Movement -- an adult education movement in the United States, highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s. The Chautauqua brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, entertainers, and wellness specialists of the day. The first Chautauqua, the New York Chautauqua Assembly, was organized in 1874 at a campsite on the shores of Chautauqua Lake.

The parlor and dining room have Strauss crystal, oriental carpets and beautiful Victorian antiques.  Four floors of porches grace the front of the hotel appointed with Victorian sofas, chairs and rockers overlooking the famous amphitheatre.

The Spa at The Spencer offers a treatment room with individual sound controls, subtle lighting, and a state of the art massage table. The Spa also features a custom-built sauna, specially designed for the ultimate invigorating, rejuvenating experience, and a private porch for outdoor relaxation  while enjoying delicious hot mulled cider and other beverages.  The Spa offers hot stone massage, facials, manicures, pedicures, Swedish sauna treatments, and can arrange for spa package vacations.
