Kansas
is a Midwestern state in the central region of the United States of
America, an area often referred to as the American "Heartland". It is
named after the Kansas River which flows through it, which in turn was
named after the Kansa tribe, who inhabited the area. Kansas
has more than 600 incorporated cities, with the most populous cities, as
follows: Wichita, Overland Park, Kansas City, Topeka, Olathe, Lawrence,
Shawnee, Manhattan, Salina, Lenexa, Hutchinson, Leavenworth, Leawood,
Garden City, Emporia, Dodge City, Prairie Village, Derby, Liberal, Hays,
Pittsburg, Newton, Junction City, Gardner, Great Bend, McPherson,
Ottawa, El Dorado, Winfield, Arkansas City, Parsons, Merriam, Lansing,
Coffeyville, Atchison, and Haysville.
