Here, we use spa not to refer to a Jacuzzi/hot tub, but in the more traditional, broader sense of a place of relaxation, restoration, and healing. The home was designed around the floorplan of a central courtyard and a porch that wraps around three sides of the home. Guests are invited to sit and read, write songs, journal, sew, walk our meditation labyrinth, watch the hummingbirds or go birding with your binoculars from a glider. And if watching the stars with a glass of wine is a favorite pastime, the courtyard has quite a show from its open-air ceiling on clear nights. Gourmet, down home breakfasts are served with delectable healthy food designed for the best start to your day. Locally grown and produced food is prepared whenever possible. Indoor and outdoor swimming are open to the entire family, depending on the season, as well as golf, tennis, biking, a first-class weight room, running/walking trails in the area and spa services. Swedish massage, reflexology, hot stone massage, acupressure work, and herbal facials are some of the spa services offered that can be indulged in as part of the stay at the Bluestem Inn. The Inn is eco-friendly: Rainwater is collected for care of the landscaping, cork and bamboo products are used in various ways because of their renewable aspects, and an extra all-home water filtering system ensures Nature’s best beverage is always available. The home was built of concrete construction, so energy efficiency goes hand in hand with a noticeable quiet, away from the storms of life that so often test the strength of prairie dwellers (and guests!)
