SPA CUISINE: CRANBERRY SWEET POTATOES
Many spa restaurants around the globe capitalize on the sweet and healthful
taste of sweet potatoes and the tart and healthy cranberry. Here is a
healthful and very easy version of a popular dish served at several spas over
the holidays:
CRANBERRY SWEET POTATOES
6 Sweet Potatoes
1/2 c Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate
2 c Cranberries, fresh or frozen
Equal Sweetener, to taste (optional)
Bake the sweet potatoes in
a 400-degree oven for about 40 minutes, or until they are soft. Combine the
orange juice concentrate and cranberries in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Lower
the heat and simmer until the cranberries pop and the sauce thickens. Add the
sweetener, if desired. Cut the tops of the sweet potatoes open and press open
from the bottom. Top each potato with the cranberry orange sauce.

SPA AT HOME: CRANBERRY SAVORY FACIAL WASH
The acidity in cranberries is a
wonderfully mild astringent and toner for your face. The Greeks
considered savory an
aphrodisiac, originally, but it also possesses certain antiseptic properties,
as does oregano and thyme, and helps cleanse the skin of excess oils.
The Lodge of Four Season on the Lake, at Lake Ozark, Missouri, boasts a
delightful Spa, Spa Shiki, which offers
an indulgent 80 minute Cranberry Facial. For those of us unable to get up to
Lake Ozark, try this home treatment from Spa Index:
SPA INDEX SAVORY CRANBERRY FACIAL WASH
1 tablespoon dried savory leaves, crushed
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup cranberries
Steep the dried savory in boiling water in a
small bowl, for fifteen minutes. Strain the liquid and set it aside.
Puree the cranberries in a blender, and strain the fruit from the liquid.
Discard the fruit, and save the juice. Combine the savory water and the
cranberry juice, soak into cotton pads, or a fine textured washcloth, and press
against your face for fifteen minutes, avoiding the eye area. Remove pads
or cloth and rinse with warm water.

SPA INDEX TREATMENT EDUCATION:
NAILBUFFS BY TARAS, plus a free Gift from Spa Index and NAILBUFFS
As part of my
goal to not only provide my readers with the best spa related travel information
I can find, but also to educate and inform you as to the latest and most
beneficial spa and spa related treatments, I am often asked for recommendations
to spas giving "the best manicure" or spas offering specials on manicure
and pedicure treatments. As part of my newsletter's "Spa at Home" feature, I am
also regularly asked to profile home manicure treatments.
I've only
answered a manicure-related question a single time, when a reader asked me to
explain the origin
of a French manicure and a recommendation for the best at-home French
manicure kit. The request corresponded with my focus on French Vichy spa
treatments, so I included the manicure information as part of my themed
newsletter. I provided the historical information, however, I was reluctant to
recommend a home manicure kit because I have never found a home manicure kit I
personally would recommend to anyone.
My opinion
changed recently when I met Donna Taras, co-founder of NAILBUFFS by Taras,
was given NAILBUFFS by TARAS
to evaluate, and learned from Donna a wealth of information not only about the
NAILBUFFS system, but information regarding natural nail care and
healthy manicure concepts both from the product's co-founder, Donna Taras.
The education I received as a result of Donna's vast experience in the field,
and my own independent research, makes it easy for me to recommend NAILBUFFS
as simply the best manicure you can ask for.

Best wishes for a Happy Holiday season,
and good Nail Health, from
