MYSTIQUE at the CENTURY PLAZA HOTEL, Century City,
California, as submitted by Spa Index Reader ANDREW: Very
friendly and attentive staff. First impression was good. Very
clean and relaxing atmosphere. Excellent prices. I received the
couples 50- min. Swedish massage and was very satisfied. I
cannot stress how courteous the staff was. I was escorted
through the spa, refreshments were poured for us; it was very
nice. The day spa, which you have complete access to all day,
was fabulous. Very well maintained -- fresh fruit and drinks
available alongside lounge chairs within the spa. Overall,
highly recommended.
MISS CELIE'S SPA at the OLDE VICTORIAN INN,

Three professional women in New Orleans for fun chose the last
day to be with (Inn Owners) Keith and Andre at their
exceptional, homey, professional spa which they designed. What a
perfect way to end our trip. We spent six hours of blissful
pampering with them. I have been to a lot of spas, some of the
best, but all three of us agreed that the treatments were the
best we have ever had. We were treated as if they were all there
for us-Keith had coffee, champagne, wine, strawberries and cream
puffs to great us. He supplied special treatments--like hot
towels, hot neck wraps, wax treatments for our hands, during and
between treatments. Be prepared for total relaxation- their
therapists are true professionals-focusing on the individuals.
Keith and Andre hand picked their therapists-and it shows. Their
products are top notch, and they have done their homework to
ensure that their clients have the very best. As I say-a must to
visit them-if not for the day, try a treatment in the middle
your visit for a change and refresh your body!! We cannot say
enough-thank you for a perfect ending to a wonderful trip.

MICHAEL: A.R.E. is one of the more 'unique' spas on the East
Coast of the United States, with one of the nicest staffs of
professional therapists, I've yet encountered. It's situated on
the highest point of ground in Virginia Beach, overlooking the
Atlantic ocean just a few hundred feet away. This is not a
glitzy day spa, but it's very fairly priced considering the high
quality of services offered.

 From
Green Mountain at Fox Run, in Vermont,
www.FitWoman.Com, comes a special recipe which lets you use up the
last of those juicy summer peaches.
"It's summertime and that means plenty of
fresh peaches. This year, they seem especially tasty. Here's a
new way to feature this sweet, juicy fruit -- Peach Salsa. Pair
it with a simple grilled chicken, meat or fish, and you not only
have a very impressive entrée, you have one that's a snap to
make. We show it here with a grilled sea bass (brush fish with a
little olive oil and lime juice and grill). This salsa recipe is
a variation of the Cantaloupe-Pineapple Salsa recipe found in
Recipes for Living."
2 medium (or 3 small peaches), peeled and cut
in cubes. 1 tablespoon lime juice. 2 green onions, chopped
(about 2 tablespoons). 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro. 1/2
teaspoon finely chopped, seeded jalapeno pepper. Salt. Pepper.
Mix all ingredients in small bowl. Refrigerate 30 minutes.

 As the end
of the summer season approaches, many of us are sporting that
attractive tell-tale sign of fun in the sun: Peeling skin. Spa
Index has an excellent recipe for an Almond Body Scrub to gently
and thoroughly exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells. Body
scrubs feel wonderful and relieve the itch of flaking skin.
2/3 cup ground almonds. 1/3 cup oatmeal. 1/2
teaspoon of herbs (lavender, chamomile, etc) (optional). Plain
yogurt, milk, or buttermilk, sufficient to make a paste.
Essential Oils for scent (optional).
Combine the dry ingredients in a blender or
food processor until they are reduced to a coarse meal. Keep
this "scrub base" in a glass jar with a screw top in your
refrigerator until ready to use. When you want to use the scrub
base, scoop out 1/4 cup into a small bowl, and stir in enough of
the liquid ingredients (vary it by what you have on hand --
yogurt and milk are best, but water works) to make a paste.
Yogurt and milk are natural exfoliates known as alpha hydroxy
acids, and they will slough off dead skin cells even without the
scrub. Scoop up the paste with your hands or a washcloth, and
rub over your body to exfoliate peeling skin. Rinse thoroughly.
