Ten Thousand Waves Inn and Spa – Santa Fe

Listed in NEW MEXICO

Ten Thousand Waves is dedicated to providing a Japanese sense of serenity and relaxation. Everything we do from the gardens to the woodwork, from the therapies to the therapists has been constantly and thoughtfully refined over the last 31 years. We pride ourselves on being “real”. We offer a unique ‘Japanese-adobe’ esthetic, combining the traditional with state-of-the-art technology.

Ten Thousand Waves is much more than just bathing, but all our massages, spa treatments, and skin care regimens are designed to compliment that amazing feeling of release that occurs when we settle into a big pool of hot water.

Ten Thousand Waves is a unique mountain spa near Santa Fe, New Mexico that feels like a Japanese hot spring resort. We’re a beautiful day spa, but for a lucky few, we also offer lodging. We’re ten minutes from downtown, only minutes to the Santa Fe National Forest, and the closest lodging to the Santa Fe Ski area.

Baths

We have modeled our bathing experience after the great hot spring onsen of Japan. There are both indoor and outdoor baths, most with access to cold plunges. There are two public baths–one for mixed bathing and one for women only. More luxurious are the private baths for just you and your guests. Baths are maintained at 104-106 degrees F., although for pregnant women or guests who desire a cooler bath, we can reduce the temperature of Shoji if reservation is made in advance.

Spa and Skincare Treatments

We don’t overwhelm you with treatments more suited to the dinner table, or those crafted by marketing geniuses on the 32nd floor. The few treatments offered at Ten Thousand Waves have been carefully selected because they are effective. Our therapists do only a few treatments–and do them very well.  Each spa treatment compliments the baths, massage, other spa treatments, or skin care.  By combining treatments, you’ll find that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Lodging

In the tradition of the Japanese ryokan, a few lucky guests are able to stay overnight just a short walk (or shuttle if you prefer) away from the spa. You’re surrounded by twenty acres of pinons and junipers, yet downtown is only ten minutes away. For an easily accessible romantic vacation to an exotic destination, there’s no better choice.  On the days the spa opens at 10:30 a.m., the New Kojiro Bath will be available for our lodging guests (men and women/suits optional) from 9 a.m. until the spa opens (every day except Tuesday).

Always complimentary to Lodging Guests:

  • High-speed wireless internet in each room
  • Domestic long-distance telephone calls
  • Breakfast: fruit, organic coffee, Japanese teas, organic granola, rice milk & lo-fat milk
  • Buddha chocolates on your pillow nightly
  • Parking
  • Communal and women’s baths
  • Cell phone reception
  • Shuttle service to spa

We reserved the New Wave bath house and it did not disappoint. It was such a unique experience and we loved every minute. We cant wait to go back and try out the other bath houses! They also have soaking foot tubs, beautiful grounds to walk around in, and a meditation room for guests.

Will never be returning to what was one of my favorite places. The covid vaccine hasn’t even ended their clinical trials and you are requiring your guests to show proof of vaccine -- what happened to 'my body my choice?' Sorry -- not willing to risk a fatal blood clot to get a massage here.

You did exercise 'your body, your choice' by declining services and choosing another provider -- of which Santa Fe has many. The spa host also exercised "our bodies, our choice" on behalf of all the OTHER guests, and every staff member, in choosing to protect EACH of those bodies in the best way the nation knows how. We respect and applaud the spa for erring on the side of common courtesy, health, well-being and respect for everyone. -- Spa Index

Either Show Vaccination OR New Mexico ID? So you can come with Covid if you live in New Mexico? I don’t mind the rules, but they didn’t tell me before I arrived, then I was told they were sure I had been informed. I was not, nor did I sign any rules.

This spa has taken extraordinary measures to protect all guests, team members, and its community, during a global pandemic -- as has nearly every spa in our global directory. Each and every one struggling to carry out an ethos of wellness during unpredecented crisis in your lifetime. In fact, we'd be hard-pressed to find a single spa or wellness provider that didn't bend over backwards to alert guests to limited services, limited menu, restricted access, social distancing, and more -- and warnings regarding such pepper our own website, as well as the 10,000 Waves website. In fact, to protect its own staff and its guests, EVERY guest who receives massage at Ten Thousand Waves must show proof of full vaccination (even NM residents). This policy is also reiterated and shown in every email confirmation. The policy is public and easy to find: https://tenthousandwaves.com/spa/massage.While it's unfortunate you were disappointed by the policy, it's a simply an exchange: Your payment in exchange for the service provided, and your respect for the rules and the team, in return for the team's respect to you, in return. -- Spa Index

So disappointing that 10,000 Waves has discontinued offering Watsu, but, the expanded / new communal soak tubs were wonderful. My sister and I make a pilgrimage here from California every year, just to soak, take the waters, enjoy the Asian aesthetic, and warm and gracious staff. It’s our favorite place in Santa Fe — we begin to melt the minute we arrive and deeply inhale — ahh — the smell of relaxation!! — Mary B., October 2004
