Day 1 | Reykjavik
Guests arrive throughout the day at Reykjavik International Airport. When you arrive, take a Flybus to the group’s hotel in downtown Reykjavik, the Centerhotel Arnarhvoll. Any time after 2 p.m., check into your hotel room (included in the package). At 5:00 pm, we will meet for the official Retreat Welcome Reception, followed by dinner together at an authentic Icelandic restaurant in downtown Reykjavik.

Day 2 | Southern Coast
After your breakfast at the hotel, our program begins at 8:30 a.m. when we meet for our first Wellness Workshop. Then we’ll enjoy a refreshing 90-minute running tour of Reykjavik. We’ll end our run at the hotel with time to freshen up before we have lunch, then drive 2.5 hours to the coastal village of Vik. We’ll arrive at the new, über-modern Icelandair Hotel Vik around 5 p.m., with time to relax before dinner at our hotel.

Day 3 | Vik
After breakfast at the hotel, we head out for a running form clinic, learning the essential aspects of good posture for running efficiency and flow. Our run will take us along Vik’s famous black sand beaches, and to Reynisfjara, considered one of the world’s most beautiful non-tropical beaches. Along our route, we’ll see wild puffins and rare columnar basalt rock formations. Upon our return to the hotel, we’ll do some gentle stretching before having free time to have lunch on your own and explore the village. Later that afternoon, we’ll have a Wellness Workshop, followed by dinner at Sudurvik, a cozy, traditional restaurant situated in an old house serving their own family recipes. Overnight at the Icelandair Hotel Vik.

Day 4 | Þórsmörk
This morning we check out of the hotel and drive into the highlands of Iceland–fording the braided Krossá River along the way–to Þórsmörk Nature Reserve, a green oasis hidden between two glaciers called Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. Upon arriving at Þórsmörk, we are dropped off at the Basar huts, from which we run about 7 miles to where we are staying tonight, the Volcano Huts in the nearby Húsadalur Valley. We’ll have a hot lunch waiting for us when we arrive. Enjoy a couple of free hours to shower, relax and enjoy this beautiful place. When it comes time to cook dinner in our hut, everyone will chip in and learn a little something about cooking traditional Scandinavian food. Overnight in Volcano Hut.

Day 5 | More in the Land of Thor
After making breakfast in the hut, we head out for an adventurous 10-mile trail run in Thórsmörk, the Land of Thor. Elinor provides some key tips and techniques to use on the trails, as we head out on part of the well-known Laugarvegur track to reach a view over the canyon of Markarfljótsgljúfur. We continue to another viewpoint, this time to overview the valley of Þórsmörk. After a late lunch back at the hut, enjoy some free time until a Wellness Workshop in main lodge. Then we all chip in to prepare dinner at the hut. Overnight in Volcano Hut.

Day 6 | From the Mountains to the Sea
After making breakfast and packing up our belongings in the hut, we head out for our final run in this magical valley that has been carved by the three glaciers surrounding it. Today we put into practice the trail running techniques we’ve been practicing during this scenically rewarding mountain 9-mile trail run. We’ll top out on a plateau with a fantastic views over the surrounding river valleys. After descending again slowly through very technical terrain we get down to the valley floor, where our driver will meet us for a picnic lunch at the Basar hut. Then we’ll make the 4-hour drive back to Reykjavik and check into our hotel. Tonight we dine in one of Reykjavik’s best traditional restaurants. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 7 | The Blue Lagoon
We’ll get an early start to our final day of the retreat with a relaxed, 7:00 a.m. run in the city of about 5 miles. After breakfast, we’ll catch the bus to The Blue Lagoon, a natural geothermal lagoon of about 104 degrees Fahrenheit of milky-blue, mineral-rich waters rumored to have curative powers, surrounded by stark, black lava fields. After our luxurious soak and silica mud mask treatments, we’ll have lunch in the Blue Lagoon’s fine dining room. Then it’s time for farewells and transportation either to the airport or back to a hotel of your own choosing in Reykjavik.
