The Ranch at Live Oak Malibu health program was launched in 2010 to assist guests in recalibrating a healthy lifestyle through an intensive endurance program emphasizing wellness and nutrition.

Choose from our week long program at the Malibu ranch, or our shorter jump start program — R 4.0 —  hosted at a luxury hotel in Westlake.   We’ll help you gain physical endurance, shed unwanted pounds, tone up and detoxify in a healthy and sustainable way.

Our week-long Ranch Boot Camp retreat is in Malibu, 3 miles above the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Monica Mountains.  Our 15-cottage retreat is beautifully situated on a large working ranch established by film star Hopalong Cassidy. Designed to frame the picturesque landscape, the intimate setting features private accommodations and premium amenities. Over 200-miles of hiking trails, an open-air kitchen and great room, organic farm, exercise pavilion, outdoor pool and spa, and private treatment rooms for massages, further enhance the spectacular surroundings.


Limited to just fifteen people each week, the Sunday to Saturday stay is designed to deliver sustainable results through a strict, “no-options” philosophy. The daily routine combines 5 to 8 hours of group mountain hiking, core and ab work, weights, daily group yoga sessions and private afternoon massages.  The Ranch is a television-free environment so you can remain focused and  engage with your fellow guests, or nature.


Our 4-day jump start program is hosted at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village.   This luxury hotel affords a spacious and relaxing environment to unwind and focus on your fitness and nutrition goals. Guests have access to the hotel’s fitness facility,  the award-winning Spa at the Four Seasons, adults-only swimming pool, whirlpool and sauna, Yamaguchi Salon, idyllic gardens and nearby Los Angeles attractions.


R4.0 is our 4 day version of the acclaimed week-long program. This program runs from Thursday to Monday and was designed for guests desiring a jump-start to a healthier lifestyle who are unable to be away from home or work for a full week and who desire to maintain more connectivity during their program immersion.

Just like at The Ranch, guests of R4.0 will take part in 8 hours per day of rigorous exercise including 4 hours of morning mountain hiking, afternoon exercise classes and stretching, delicious organic vegetarian cuisine, massages and a cooking demonstration. Bod Pod and VO2 Tests are also included in your stay.


The intense daily physical regimen at both locations is complemented by homegrown organic vegetarian fare impeccably prepared and presented by acclaimed Executive Chef Kurt Steeber, The Ranch’s “Nutritional Alchemist”. Steeber worked closely with advising nutritionists to create the all-vegetarian diet nutritionally and calorically calibrated to shed unwanted pounds and sustain guests throughout their stay. The Ranch is also accommodating for any allergies, and excludes alcohol, caffeine and processed sugars, aiding in your detoxification and revitalization process.


Guests begin their journey 30-days prior to arrival through a series of suggested exercise, diet and healthy living assignments intended to prepare them for their time on-site. Lasting nutritional and fitness guidance from The Ranch experts will continue after departure to ensure guests sustain the benefits of their stay.

I couldn’t be happier with the program and the staff at The Ranch. My experience here exceeded all my expectations. I lost 10 inches which I am thrilled about. More importantly, I have reset my body and have started myself on a new track to greater health. The food was amazing!
