Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Smoothie

Is it breakfast, dessert, a post work out meal, a milk shake, or all of these things?  Hard to decide!  The team at Biggest Loser Resorts came up with this peanut butter banana chocolate smoothie, kicked it up with honey, and it manages to be a rich treat and a protein boost all in one.   It’s got good fats and nutrition, but make no mistake, it’s a calorie indulgence.  We share the original version, and our modified version which is lower calorie and a little less sweet, as well.

This post is as much a Public Service Announcement as anything else — because we are constantly shown the image of this smoothie in a small glass, claiming it’s only 50 calories. Not so. This recipe is for 6 servings, but even so, even a small portion wouldn’t be 50 calories.  Check our stats, below!

Spa Index Kitchen Notes

Nope, Not 50 Calories!

We love using powdered peanut butter (PB2) in place of full fat peanut butter. It saves on a great many fat calories. Add to taste -- it is not necessary to use as full cup.
As for protein powder, we don't think you can get any better tasting product than UNJURY, and our favorite happens to be Unjury Chocolate Splendour. This product lives up to the promise "tastes like chocolate milk."
Note the nutritional stats -- Bigger Loser's Version is listed at right in the Nutrition Label.  It considers this recipe SIX SERVINGS. We've seen this "shake" misquoted as a 50 calorie treat all over the web -- clearly the smallest sample ever, or a mistake. Be careful -- this is a meal.
Our reduced calorie version is:  Serving size: 1 | Cal: 275 | Fat (g): 2.2 | Sat Fat (g): 0.1 | UnSat (g): 0 | Trans (g): 0 | Carbs (g): 36 | Sugar (g): 23 | Sodium (mg): 270 | Fiber (g): 3.3 | Protein (g): 30 | Chol (mg): 3.0

Good with PB2 and everyone enjoys it. We make it extra rich with Fairlife milk.

  2. Elena Goldsmith says:

My teens’ favorite. Make it all the time.

  3. Mignon Voitier says:

Tasty but more of a dessert than a smoothie

  4. Madeline Speulveda says:

I’ve seen this as 50 calories a dozen places and knew that wasn’t correct. Thank you!

  5. Candace says:

I’ve seen this ALL OVER PINTEREST at 50 calories per glass. I knew that was impossible. Maybe a shot-glass size of 1 oz? No way. I’m not even sure why BL promoted this recipe. Good fats, protein, that’s true, but golly. Thanks for figuring out the stats for us. It didn’t even need the honey. Your version was good.

    • Korry says:

I’ve seen it too 100 times. I knew it couldn’t be right. Not even a shot glass of this would be 50 calories. Must be a reprint that just never went away. The revised version is better and much lower in calories.
