Marilyn Monroe Spa at the Manchester Grand Hyatt
1 Market Place, San Diego, CA

Marilyn Monroe Spa is located in the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego – a seaside hotel and spa just steps from Seaport Village, Petco Park and the nightlife of the Gaslamp Quarter.  Amenities including two rooftop pools, the full service spa and salon, and a complimentary fitness center.

The Spa — on the third floor of the Harbor Tower in the hotel — offers incredible views of San Diego Bay and Coronado Island. When you purchase spa services, you will also enjoy complimentary use of his and her steam rooms, saunas, tranquil lounges, and the serene surroundings of an outdoor whirlpool and lap pool overlooking the water.

This setting prompted our team of Secret Spa Reviewers to vote the Spa as “our favorite spa for a full day of relaxation.”

Indigo Salon Spa
3545 4th Ave San Diego

Indigo Salon Spa is a full service hair salon and day spa in the Hillcrest area. This salon and spa offers an airy, open, bright setting, featuring art by by local artists.

In addition to the full service hair menu, the spa menu includes skin care, massage, waxing, body scrubs, nail care, permanent make-up, acupuncture, and a private shower for spa guests.  The salon and spa are split into two floors, with the salon downstairs and the spa on the upper level. The Salon provides a warm and friendly yet distinctly “glam” setting, while the spa is more subdued and serene.

 Indigo Salon Spa

I typically avoid salon and spas under one roof.  I like to compartmentalize  my services — I want a high energy fun experience with friendly chatter when I have my hair colored, but I want a quiet and serene energy for my skincare and massage. By separating the two areas completely and offering two completely different vibes, they managed to separate the sights, sounds, and even smells of the salon from the spa.  I enjoyed a wash and style downstairs, and then returned on another date for spa services upstairs.  It was bright, sunny, and fun one one visit, and warm, cozy and relaxing on another. This was my favorite overall experience of all the spas I visited.

Alleviating Whispering Waters Day Spa
550 Cedar Street, San Diego

Alleviating Whispering Waters received high marks in every category, but our readers particularly love the manicures and pedicures at this downtown San Diego day spa.  Champagne in hand, zero gravity chairs, shoulder and scalp massages, and a foot-bath hygiene policy that puts your health first and foremost by using stainless steel soaking bowls and eschewing fungus-prone jetted tubs.

Alleviating Whispering Waters Day Spa

Just book the “Pamper the Queen package” if you want an over the top pedicure experience.   Service in in a private room, free of the chaos in most nail salons, a glass of champagne, a foot soak with essential oils and rose petals, just to start. My pedicure included a scented scalp massage, cuticle care and nail shaping, exfoliation, a moisturizing masque and finally a hot stone massage.  Rest in a zero gravity chair while your favorite polish applied and you get a manicure at the same time. Try not to snooze.

Eco Chateau
2831 Camino Del Rio S., San Diego

Our readers love Eco Chateau:  A friendly spa tucked away in an unassuming business park, offering massage, skin care, colon hydrotherapy, whole body vibration, infrared sauna, and a popular 1, 3 or 5 day detox juice cleanses and 21 day detoxification programs.

 Eco Chateau Mission Valley

The entire team really cares about guests and health and wellness, but can I just say, the place is so darn charming and cute, you just can’t help but want to return again and again.  My favorite place to get over the unintended consequences of a life well-lived too often.  A hidden gem.
