BEST DAY SPA - MASSAGE
Dragon Tree Holistic Day Spa
2768 NW Thurman Street, Portland
Our readers nominated and tipped us to the Portland’s Dragon Tree Holistic Day Spa to enjoy our best massage and our Secret Spa Reviewers agreed. Dragon Tree features 13 massage and aesthetic treatment rooms, two private manicure/pedicure rooms, a couples massage room with a private water wall, private changing room and shower facility, and a shoppe with more than 1,000 square feet of Natural Body care, natural skincare lines used in the massage and facial services, aromatherapy, candles, and custom gift baskets.
“I had my best Deep Tissue Massage this year with David at Dragon Tree Holistic Day Spa. I appreciated that I could linger in a really nice environment and take in a traditional Finnish sauna during my visit. A full 30 minutes was included in the cost of my massage — a real treat.“Anon
I had a wonderful experience with Colleen, who was both talented and interesting, answering several questions I had, and the reasons why the (included) Finnish sauna is so useful for good health for Portlanders (read about it on their site). I also thought the locker rooms were quite nice, well appointed and comfortable, as was the lounge and waiting area, where I enjoyed my hot tea before my appointment.Anon
BEST DAY SPA - MANI PEDI
Blooming Moon Spa
1920 N. Killingsworth St. Portland
Located in the heart of Portland’s Overlook Village neighborhood, Blooming Moon Wellness Spa provides organic skin care, body scrubs, healing massage services (aromatherapy, pregnancy, deep tissue, hot stone and more) and a pedicure room. Two of our reviewers visited and pronounced it the best mani pedi of the voting season.
Sara gave us our best manicure and pedicure. An interesting array of pedicure choices included the JellyBath — a warm, aromatic gelatin bath which completely envelopes the feet and retains the warmth throughout the service.Anon
Don’t miss the weekday happy hour — an aromatherapy Epsom Salt Foot Soak, Foot Massage plus Hop & Vine select wine and hors d’oeuvre plate. This $30 for 30 minute treat is available Tuesday through Friday by appointment.Anon
BEST DAY SPA - ALTERNATIVE WELLNESS
Common Ground Wellness
5010 NE 33rd Ave, Portland
Common Ground was nominated by many readers as offering massage, sauna, outdoor hot tub soaks, invigorating showers and acupuncture, personal counseling and energy work. The facility is in the Alberta Arts neighborhood, and is open daily until 11:00 pm. The center has guidelines to assure a calm, respectful and healthy vibe for all, including quiet hours. While the facility is clothing optional and co-ed, there are men-only hours every Monday, and women-only hours every Tuesday, from 7 pm to 11 pm, as well as a monthly transgender night.
This was a fun place to visit. I had a great Shiatsu massage from Fig, a long soak in the common area hot tub, and spent some time just sunning myself in a lovely quiet area. This is a great place to experience the European style of common area soaking. Be prepared to bring your own towels (one for sitting on, one for drying) and a bottle of water. Beverages are available but once you settle in, you’ll want your own bottle.Anon
BEST DAY SPA - ESTHETICS (BROWS and WAXING)
Sugarpuss Beauty Petite Spa
1829 NE Alberta Street, Portland
Our readers nominated and Stephanie Johnson’s Sugarpuss Beauty as their favorite spa for expert waxing, brow design and lash design locale. We agree! Sugarpuss offers a complete menu of skin care, but services really shine here when you want to keep your brows immaculately designed and groomed, or enjoy a dramatic new look or soft bridal look by an award-winning make-up artist.
It’s really difficult to review brow designers — the time between services can be long in order to have a fresh, ungroomed brow to start with. I took photographs of my brows from three different locations over the course of six months but Stephanie’s work was far and away the best design for my face right from the start. She is a total pro.Anon
