A White Pond Paradise, Akron, OH
I cannot say enough positive things about this salon! I had an awesome experience here last week. I had my hair cut and colored and I received a manicure. Right now, they are previewing a new makeup line to sell on site, so if you ask, you can probably get a complimentary makeover with your visit. The staff is professional and courteous. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Every client I saw was wearing jeans and t-shirts or sweaters. It's a great place to go and relax. Complimentary water, coffee, tea, granola bars if you will be there an hour or more for your service. The prices are comparable to other salons in the area, but you can get everything done with just one stop. I definitely recommend it! -- S.W., February 2010

Mario's
International, Aurora, OH
Mario's is the first spa at which I ever both received
services and stayed overnight. Although the spa is an older one,
it retains a certain charm. Naturally, the decor and fixtures
could be updated, but the fact that they haven't been has the
positive result of remaining affordable for people such as myself
who want a spa experience but can't afford "The Ritz." My favorite
two features of Mario's are the attached restaurant and the
knowledgeable spa staff. The restaurant food is delicious and its
ambiance is both rustic and classic. The staff know their work and
do their best to make clients comfortable. The hotel could use a
sprucing up, but the rooms are clean. With the exception of one
waitress at the restaurant, I have enjoyed my four stays there. I
was, however, disappointed that when I complained about this one
waitress, I was not given a coupon for services in the future. I
feel it would have been good business to compensate me with a food
or spa voucher. -- Marianne W., January 2009

The Kerr House,
Grand Rapids, OH I have known Laurie Hostetler,
the owner of The Kerr House, for more than 30 years. I have been to The
Kerr House on a number of occasions. When I lived in the Midwest, I
taught at Indiana-Purdue University and even took faculty members for
one-day spa programs. I have done the one-day, the three-day and
the five day programs. Naturally, because of that, I am divinely
enthusiastic about The Kerr House and what Laurie has single-handily
accomplished by turning it into the crown jewel of Victorian homes. Over
a period of 25 years, I have been to 5 star spas, including many
in here in Arizona where I now reside, and none compare to The Kerr
House. How many spas can claim having guests return 20 or 30
times---one even 34 times? Clearly, there are many clients as
enthusiastic as I am. -- Sharon W., April 2006

The Kerr House, Grand
Rapids, OH
I arrived at The Kerr House filled with
fatigue and fibromyalgia pain and left a transformed woman with an
empowering "bag full" of real tools for healing, and every cell in my
body feeling loved. I live in the Phoenix, Arizona area and we have some
of the world's best spas here. They all offer impersonal, but efficient
service, many of them being way too "hoity toity" for my liking. My Kerr
House experience was that the restored and loved-back-to-life house
which itself exuded healing energy, from the moment I stepped through
the front doors. Common sense dictates that the floorplan of a Victorian
home wouldn't have 10 bathrooms or every 21st-Century amenity. The charm
and uniqueness was a gift in itself. I met some wonderful life-long
friends while sharing the community bathrooms. Each spa treatment healed
me on spiritual, physical and emotional levels. I didn't really care
what type of products they were using because their hands worked
incredible magic on my body. I was surprised at the quantity of food
offered and rarely could finish everything on my plate because my body
started feasting with my eyes from the beautiful presentation. I lost 5
lbs. in 5 days without even trying. Having breakfast in bed served with
an itinerary that took all the treatment-related decisions out of my
hands was heavenly. As to service, the invisible staff climbed 5
flights of Victorian stairs to pick up linens, fold the toilet paper
into a triangle and tidy up my room. The Kerr House employees are not
"staff" -- they are a devoted family which is passionate about making a
permanent difference in people's lives. The attention to detail with the
evening meal on one-of-a-kind china and the charming "entertainment"
geared toward inner exploration was something I appreciated. The owner,
Laurie, is a walking testament to what the habits she teaches can
accomplish and she inspired me. If clients want modern, conformist
resort glitz, there are thousands of other spas to visit. The Kerr House
offers healing for those awake enough to appreciate it and her unique,
loving, gifted, devoted stewards. You'll never forget what your body
received there and every piece of wood, brick, mortar and stained glass
will beckon you back to loving arms. -- Germaine C., April 2006

Xtacee Spa & Salon, Madison,
OH Really nice people, not-too-expensive pricing. One of their stylists gave
my daughter a really cute haircut and style. My only complaint was being there
for a spa treatment and having to listen to live loud country music on the
radio, instead of something relaxing. That definitely takes away from the
"spa" feel. I recommend Xtacee for hair and nail services, but suggest
you find another place for a relaxing spa experience. -- Tina, April 2005

Shamas Urban Retreat,
Perrysburg, OH The staff at Shamas Urban Retreat were wonderful! They were pleasant
and very professional. I had never experienced a massage before, and they
made me very comfortable. My experience was a delight!I am actually
planning on visiting them at least 4X a year! Thanks! -- Mona, Feb 2003
