Special to Spa Index Media by
New York native Teri Goldberg, Freelance
Writer Submitted November 2004
"Let me say upfront: I’m not a spa aficionado — this was my fourth
treatment at a day spa — and I am a very tough customer. I
visited Metamorphosis Day Spa in New York City in November 2004
for a massage and facial. Most importantly, about the treatments—
the massage with Julia was the best I’ve had yet.
The facial was good, but not great... ."

Bliss Spa

Review by Natisha, Submitted April 2007 Bliss Spa is exactly as it sounds. It was such a blissful experience, I can't
recommend it enough. If you are a quiet person such as myself who enjoys their
privacy, this is the spa to go to. The atmosphere is real quiet and comfortable.
Cell phones and loud shoes are strictly prohibited. The manicure/pedicure/facial
combo is supreme! It is so relaxing, you just feel so pampered. Everything
is always clean. Trust me once you go "Bliss" you will never go to another
spa again. Just to tell you how popular they are, you have to book months
in advance (even for a simple manicure). They have two locations, E 57th between
5th and Madison Ave. in the LVMH Tower and one at 568 Broadway in the Armani
Exchange Bldg. in the SOHO district. Many celebrities have raved about Bliss.
This one is a must! |

Review by Erica B., Submitted September 2008
The spa
accommodated a sweet-16 party of 6 girls and two of us
accompanying them. They were very nice to create a spa
package for the girls that was appropriate for teens and
somewhat affordable. The space is quite small, but it is
Midtown Manhattan. It was clean, nicely decorated, and they
started our services on time. All of my guests seemed
pleased with the services (massage, teen facial, mani/pedi)
and the massage I had was with a man who was fantastic. |

Review by Ellen G., Submitted July 2008
This was supposed to be a tranquil "spa day" as a surprise
for my daughter's 18th birthday. We chose this spa because
of the rave reviews it received on citysearch. I've
been to spas all over the country and this spa was my worst
experience. The services were concluded in less time
than promised (e.g., the 85 minute facial was concluded in
65 minutes, and the 90 minute massage was approximately
65-70 minutes).
The treatment rooms were very
cold and during my facial the technician left the room on
several occasions, leaving the the door open. I could hear
people talking and dishes clashing in the kitchen.
Crazy.
I specifically requested lunch
and the spa "forgot" to serve it to us. The management
at this spa was slow to respond, and, instead of the refund
I asked for, they offered to repeat the services --
although they knew I lived in North Carolina and this was
probably a once-only visit. I would have even settled
for a partial refund, and I made several additional attempts
to contact the management by phone, fax and email, but they
did not reply. In fact, when I've called on several
occasions (early in the morning) the people that answer the
phone won't even take a message, they tell me I have to call
back. I believe this is because they either don't understand
English very well or don't want the burden of taking the
many messages I've tried to leave. |

Review by L.K., Submitted August 2001
The atmosphere is quite nice, the pool clean and refreshing. Waiting area
a bit small, though. The Microdermabrasion facial I had was nice and relaxing,
however, the beautician promised great results in one session, and then recommended
a series of six once I was done. If I'd known that, I would have had the plain
facial I came in for. Talk about an up sell, $70 to $150, and she did not
do an extraction of the clogged, blocked pores, which was the whole point.

Review by Priya B., Submitted February 2009
Though I have been
to couple of fancy spas, I was ready and willing to try my
luck at this Wellness Spa. My sister had been there before
and she recommended this place for a facial and massage. To
my surprise, though the place was small, it was a peaceful
environment with great energy. I felt very calm and serene.
As they follow Ayurvedic approach for the treatments, I was
given two pages to fill for my so called Ayurvedic
Constitution analysis. Then a very sweet therapist took me
in the treatment room and started the facial - that was a
great great facial. I have never felt so relaxed during a
facial. She was very gentle and she also explained me the
herbal products that she was using for my treatment. The
massage was another lifetime experience. the warm herbal
oils with essential oils were used for the massage. The head
massage in the end was out of this world. I felt very
special and I will say - a great experience! |

Review by John, Submitted July 2003 Fabulous place. You could not ask for a more informed skin care professional
than (owner) Gail. Try the Chemical Peel. I never knew anything about peels
before she recommended the Chemical Treatment, and I cannot believe how amazing
my skin looks! It has a pearly white glow to it and the brown spots seem to
have been minimized. I cannot wait for the next treatment. I also think it
is extremely affordable. This the exact same treatment a dermatologist does
except at a lower price. |

Review by L.K., Submitted August 2005 One word - AWFUL! I felt lured in by the offer of free samples of the product
line, and opted for a facial. First, the treatment "rooms" are
just tiny curtained-off areas, and not luxurious at all. Second, the
beautician came in, slathered some goo on my face, and left to sit in the
tiny corridor and talk LOUDLY with the other esthetician. She repeated this
for an hour - smear, leave, wipe, leave, smear, leave - I was very annoyed.
Finally, once my "facial" was done, she proceeded to send me to a "consultant"
who tried to sell me hundreds of dollars of products. When I asked to
try the offered samples, she responded "Samples aren't going to clear up that
skin, you need to start a regimen NOW!" I won't go back.

Review by D.M., September 2006
Mario Badescu is not the kind of Spa you go to relax -- it's where you go
to look great! Yes, the place is somewhat loud, the people at the front
desk are a little abrupt, and the rooms are a little small. And, when you
go, the waiting room will most likely be packed -- that's because Mario Badescu
knows skin care. I have gone to several dermatologists and they were never
able to get my skin as flawless as the esthetician at MB has. I am devoted
and go once a month. |

Stone Spa
New York, NY |

Review by Karen B., Submitted February 2003
Very disappointed in this spa. I had high expectations since it was
advertised as new and improved from its old space. The atmosphere was
very cold and I was not greeted or made comfortable when I arrived.
I thought there were going to be waterfalls flowing through the lobby.
The spa room was so small that all the products were knocked over by the
esthetician
and she couldn't fit around the table. A baby was crying the entire
time I was there, trying to relax. The signature facial was nice with the
hot stones but there were no extractions or any neck massaging. On a
1-10 scale a 5. It was certainly not a $125.00 facial.
Follow-up: Spa Index
attempted contacted the spa and the spa apologized. A
regular guest brought an infant and the spa was reluctant to
reschedule the regular, but acknowledged it created
additional noise in the spa. The spa indicated that
the type of facial requested was given in accordance with
the description in the menu. The space is small and
renovation and design was still underway. |

Review by Elizabeth A., Submitted January 2009
The facility is a
full service salon and spa. It is impeccably kept, all the
staff are courteous and although it is not overly
extravagant, it is attractively decorated. My most recent
visit was for a massage. They provided me with herbal tea, a
very nice waffle texture robe and a locker in the
well-appointed locker room. The massage room was small but
the temperature was perfect and the table was heated. I was
in for just a basic therapeutic massage. The masseuse was
friendly, courteous and STRONG which is very important to me
because my shoulders require it. By the end of the massage I
was warm, melty putty. In the teak-lined shower I took
advantage of the lovely scented soaps and left the salon
relaxed and refreshed but not completely broke. I even got a
free makeup touch up on my way out. I can't wait to go back! |

Review by Sam W., Submitted July 2008
Myself being an avid spa goer, I was very pleased when I
decided to take a friend's recommendation to visit an
esthetician at MedVisage Spa. The one on one
experience can absolutely not be beat. As soon as you walk
up to the spa you are greeted by a beautiful serene garden
in which you may sit and relax on a bench that's perched up
under a tree. When you walk into the spa you are the center
of attention for start to finish. The room in which you have
your facial in is very warm and inviting, the bed soft and
warm. The products were by YonKa. The scent of these
products was very indulging. I walked out of the spa after
the most amazing facial feeling like a million bucks.
