This day spa is located in the Steglitz suburb of Berlin. Public bus and subway stops are very close. The spa is behind a residential building with clear signs posted. The facilities are modern (white decor) and very clean. A €17 daily fee includes steam, sauna, quiet room, pool, icy dip, loungers, showers, lockers (€10 deposit), towels, robes, hairdryer, summer terrace, outside smoking area. Additional treatments include hydrotub, massage, body polish, facial and nails (adjacent building). A cafe serves drinks (alcohol too), cakes and salads at reasonable prices. Spa products are available for purchase. Thursdays are for women only, all other days are mixed. My sister and I visited on 11.12.03 (woman's day) and pampered ourselves for six hours. Our appointments had been mis-scheduled, but aestheticians worked late just to accommodate us. My sister enjoyed the Californian massage; I had the massage/body polish. Our total cost, including hydrotub, mineral water and wine was €130 (approx $150 or £100). I will visit Fichteneck Sauna again in 2004!

I stayed at the spa for two nights and had the relaxation package.  To be brutally honest, I really felt that some of the treatments were not worthwhile. For instance, the temperature for the Vichy shower massage was quiet worrying. The massage wasn't remotely relaxing, and for a four star spa, the noise level was totally unacceptable.  The staff seemed nice but not very professional.  The girl who gave me my massage was wearing pink runners -- not very professional in my opinion. I have been to other spas and I can say that I will not return to Inchydonney.

How absurd to complain about the color and style of shoes in a wet-environment.  Pink runners or Blue or Purple -- the fact she wore non-slip shoes in a wet spa is totally normal and safe. The staff was "nice" but not professional enough. The water was "worrying" but she doesn't say why.  The noise -- was what?  Music? Construction? Renovation? People? That can be fixed with one word if its music or people talking.   I can say that I HAVE been here many times and return to Inchydonney twice a year.  Some people are just grumpy with not much nice or constructive to say.

As an antidote to the cold in Slovenia in March I thought a Spa Day would be a good idea, and it was. As these were said to be specialties of the centre, I booked in for the Živa Package, containing a body treatment and a facial. Each of them were to last 90 minutes. The body treatment started with a scrub, where one could choose between lemon and orange, followed by a long and lovely massage. The facial was truly out of this world, especially the elaborate face massage and the hand massage after application of mask. Only a few points that the management should take into consideration: communicate with the customer as the programme is not as in the brochure. Having lived in Egypt for some years, I found it odd having a man as a masseur, also without previous communication. And last but not least: lose the paper panties and slippers. They're cheap and uncomfortable.

After the Rain

Several of us who are regular spa visitors took the opportunity to enjoy the services at After the Rain in downtown Geneva. While it took a while to figure out how to get to the English pages of their web site, we were able to contact the spa by email and efficiently schedule our three appointments. We were greeted by the staff and led to the changing rooms by an staff member who spoke English. The facilities are clean and modern, but signage of men's and women's facilities were not apparent unless you knew what to look for (I surprised a woman in the men's hammam). I enjoyed a message under effusion, which was relaxing and enjoyable. The therapist did not speak English, but my limited French was enough to understand most of her instructions and questions. The use of a provided thong was different from my US experiences but more than sufficient to preserve my dignity. The massage was more of the Swedish style and, while relaxing, was not a vigorous as the therapeutic style I've gotten used to. The 45-minute duration was a little short. My other two friends thoroughly enjoyed a 60-minute aromatherapy massage and we all were encouraged to enjoy the hammam and the relaxation area both before and after our treatments. We are all looking forward to a return visit during our next business trip in May 2006. -- Steven L., December 2005

I enjoyed the quiet and cleanliness of the Hillside Su Spa. The Turkish culture is not chattery with "thank you's" and "can I help you" being asked all the time. I was just left alone in the Turkish Bath atmosphere. I will definitely visit again.
