To Tell the Truth: San Francisco's Newest Spa Bares All
New World Design Builders Creates Tru spa

August 26, 2003
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., - New World Design Builders, the most innovative design-build firm in the spa industry, has created an indoor rain forest as the signature treatment of Tru, San Francisco’s latest spa.  Located in the downtown financial district, Tru opened in June 2003.

“We wanted the spa to be true to its name,” said designer Chris Kofitsas, co-founder of New World Design Builders. “This spa has no fluff or gimmicks.  The design is simple and straightforward.  We used only natural materials and colors in a clean and efficient workable space.  Tru Spa’s design does not over use materials that indicate opulence.”

The envelope of Tru is a rectangle with a wall of windows along its entire length, making it one of the only day spas to offer natural light.  “The light bouncing across the space gave birth to the idea of floating and luminosity,” said Mr. Kofitsas.   “All the materials we use reflect and diffuse light.”

By using breezy light shades of blues and whites, bamboo flooring, and translucent glowing Plexiglas panels backlit with warm golden lights, the reception and retail area are ethereal and look as though they are floating.  Curving walls and glowing conical fabric sculptures create a rhythm along the rectangular space leading to the rain forest room with greenery, rainfall and illuminating stars where clients indulge in a three-part mud treatment.

Tru spa offers a unique manicure/pedicure room with three stations.   There are ten treatment rooms, five rooms offer natural light for facials while the other five offer color therapy for massage.   The services offered at Tru are effective as well as luxurious.

“New World Design Builders was the obvious choice,” said Craig Fossella owner of Tru Spa.   “They have a great track record for creating addictive spaces and the talent we were seeking to bring the urban spa experience to San Francisco.”

“Our goal was to create a modern facility for a more progressive spa experience on West Coast.  We wanted the design of Tru to be light, comfortable, and unpretentious.    New World Design Builders understood our vision for the spa.  They came up with a fabulous design and an over the top treatment room for the ultimate spa experience.”

New World Design Builders, Inc. is one of the leading architectural design and construction firms in the New York metropolitan area.  As a design-build firm, New World Design Builders is one of a small, but growing number of companies that provide their clients with single source responsibility for everything from initial concept through completion of each assignment.  Staffed by an unusual blend of experts in construction and design, as well as a team of craftsmen and artisans, the firm is best known for its cutting edge, remarkably creative work in the spa and salon industry.  Simultaneously, New World Design Builders has extensive experience in the residential, leisure facility and hospitality design fields.
