Chena Hot Springs Resort

The resort is truly a one-of-a-kind destination whether you are interested in Aurora viewing tours, relaxing in the hot springs, enjoying an “appletini” in the Aurora Ice Museum, getting a fabulous therapeutic massage, taking dog sled or cart rides, enjoying flight-seeing tours or any of the other fabulous activities offered year-round.  Owner Bernie Karl has a passion for the environment and assures the resort is environmentally friendly, using geothermal technology to power it.  Geothermal technology keeps resort heated and the Aurora Ice Museum a cool 25 degrees Fahrenheit inside year-round. The geothermal heated greenhouses produce lettuce and tomatoes for the resort’s restaurant and 50+ employees on a year-round basis with a few different types of fruit grown for good measure. Chena is a scenic 60 miles from Fairbanks.   In addition to our relaxing hot springs, a free daily geothermal renewable energy tour offers guests an opportunity to learn more about our energy saving projects by touring the Power Plant, Chena Greenhouses and ice museum absorption chiller.

RV camping is offered May 15-September 15.  There are 24 marked sites in the main campground for RVs or tents. Six camping sites are available close to yurts. Seven yurts sites available. No advance reservations available.  Water and dump station available for guests. Coin operated washers and dryers available. No electric. Maximum two tents per space. Does not include swim or soak passes.

The Historic Avila Hot Springs is situated between oak-covered foothills that keep the morning fog away and make a natural year round air conditioner, which will enhance a nice morning, afternoon, or evening swim.  We have a large 50 x 100 ft. fresh water pool which is kept at 85 degrees and a mineral pool which is filled daily from a natural artesian well and kept at 104 degrees. Massage therapy is available and can be an important part of an overall wellness program. A palm shaded picnic area with tables is available for use by our pool customers. Cabin, RV, and Tent Camping, Hot Mineral Pool, Recreation Hall and Arcade, Hot Showers, Ice,  movies on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a Restaurant.

This family operated resort enjoys a peaceful rural setting with mild weather. Beautiful vistas surround it: the Salton Sea and colorful sunsets over the Borrego mountains to the West, and the majestic, ever changing Chocolate mountains, backyard to the East and North. Shopping, Golf, Indian Gaming, fine dining, hospital and medical care and an airport are an easy 60 to 75 minute drive north to Indio, Palm Springs and the "Desert Empire".  It has 835 full hook up sites. And because Banning Mills RV Park is open year round, you can come camping with us during any time of the year. Historic Banning Mills is a non-profit retreat and conservation center.
