An Introduction to The Spa at Cranwell Spa Index Visits the Spa at Cranwell As a resort bathed in the timeless beauty of the Berkshires and serenaded each season with the classical musical strains from Tanglewood, we have found our mission in the confluence of those extraordinary, organic and human creations. By approaching the spa experiences as though it were a symphony, it is our hope that we have created a composition that will take every guest on a harmonious journey that engages and delights every sense along the way. Combining the natural beauty of its idyllic Berkshire setting on a high ridge with the historic and cultural background of Lenox, Massachusetts, The Spa at Cranwell provides guests a unique spa experience. Over the years, Cranwell has established itself as a premier resort in New England. Its central location and easy accessibility from the major metropolitan areas of New York, Boston, Hartford, Albany, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Montreal make it a year-round destination for travelers. The addition of the state-of-the-art Spa further extends Cranwell's commitment to providing guests with world class amenities and services. The Spa is linked to 58 of the resort's guest rooms by heated, glass corridors with outstanding views of the resort's landscaped and wooded grounds. It is a perfect complement to Cranwell's 107 guest rooms, 18 hole championship golf course, world class Golf School and three different dining venues. The design of the 35,000 square foot Spa embraces the architectural features of the other buildings located within the resort including the renowned Cranwell Mansion, built in the Gilded Age by the Sloane furniture family and historic Beechers Cottage. The setting captures the landscaped splendor created by the famed landscape Architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. Cranwell is also a member of the prestigious Historic Hotels of America organization. The Spa features a skylight along the main entrance corridor and sixteen well appointed treatment rooms. Enclosing the 60 foot long indoor pool is a dramatic 20 foot high glass wall offering beautiful views of the Berkshire Mountains. Decorated in warm earth tones, the interior design of the Spa creates a comforting environment where guests don terry cloth robes and slippers and enjoy the specifically designed saunas, steam rooms and spacious whirlpool therapeutic baths. Before or after receiving a treatment, a guest may wish to relax in a luxurious lounge complete with a refreshment bar and fireplace. With over 30 spa services ranging from soothing massages to healing wraps to organic skin and body treatments, the Spa's highly trained specialists care for your individual rejuvenation and well being. These services have been carefully selected by our experienced staff and are based on elements such as mineral rich clay and botanically based soothing elements. The Fitness Center houses an array of the latest equipment to promote strength and endurance training. The Spa has been designed with a Spa Suite that provides an ideal setting to enjoy the company of others while receiving a treatment. A collection of carefully selected spa and wellness products await guests that visit the brightly designed Spa Shop that is open daily. Cranwell's management team, headed by General manager Lew Kiesler, has many years of experience in spa management. Kiesler comes to Cranwell with four star hotel background that includes senior executive and general management positions with Rock resorts (Woodstock Inn and Caneel Bay) as well as Topnotch at Stowe Resort and Spa. The daily management of the Spa will be handled by Helen Taylor Pierce. Helen is an accomplished, talented, energetic leader with extensive experience in spa management. She has been Executive Spa Director of the Marriott Mountain Resort in Vail, Colorado and the Charter at Beaver Creek. Recently, she managed the Fontana Spa on Lake Geneva, Fontana, Wisconsin, selected as one of the top seven spas in the nation by Shape Magazine. The largest resort Spa in the Northeast, The Spa at Cranwell welcomes the visitor seeking rejuvenation and renewal in unique and serene surroundings. SPA INDEX VISITS THE SPA AT CRANWELL For me, and anyone looking
for relaxation, ambience is essential. Those who drive to the Cranwell Resort,
Spa and Golf Club from the Northeast will find the drive to the Resort as
relaxing as the spa experience it offers. Located in the bucolic Berkshire
Mountains in Lenox, Massachusetts, surrounded by acres of still virgin
farmlands, the Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club offers the perfect setting for
skiing in the winter, and, golfing during the warmer months on a magnificent 18
hole golf course conveniently right on the premises during the warmer months. A stark but very inviting contrast is the 35,000 square foot Spa at Cranwell, which was completely remodeled and reopened in March 2002. The Spa at Cranwell is set in a newly constructed glass building filled with natural sunlight and linked to the hotel by glass walkways. These walkways enable the spa to be used year round by guests who don't want to brave the cold outdoors conditions during the winter months. Both the hotel and spa facility are handicapped accessible, as well. The Spa at Cranwell "glass house" features a bistro-like restaurant open for low-cal spa lunches, a gift shop, a 60 foot indoor pool, and both a dry and eucalyptus steam sauna. There are 16 treatment rooms in which to enjoy more than 30 spa treatments, including facials, massage, thermal clay and seaweed body wraps, and a Vichy shower massage. One appealing feature in the treatment rooms is the ability for two people to undergo massage at the same time -- an optional social experience. Since the Spa at Cranwell was recently opened on March 26 and Spa Index visited soon thereafter, some of the outside landscaping and other small details were still being worked on, however, the staff was welcoming, attentive, caring, and skillful. They helped create the ambience of total relaxation in this completely unpretentious facility. What I enjoyed is that the Spa at Cranwell staff really went out of their way to offer me a personal and individualized experience and made me feel very relaxed and welcome! Helen, the Director of Spa at Cranwell, has hand-picked her staff and she has done a superb job! Now I should detail the
experience of getting a hot stone massage for the first time I strongly encourage anyone who wants to experience great relaxation and superb attention to their every need to visit the new Spa at Cranwell and enjoy Suzanne's expert attention, or, one of the 2, 3 or 5 day packages offered. --Submitted by Margaret Pearson for Spa Index |
